Tower Song Demo Coming to Steam Next Fest June 2023!

First off, we are happy to announce that a 2-hour demo of Tower Song will be available during Steam Next Fest June 2023! The festival runs from 19-26 June, and we are excited for players to get their hands on the game firsthand.

The demo will allow players to experience the entirety of Act I, giving players a taste of the four playable characters as well as a few allies and more than a few nasty bosses.

Feature Highlight: Choosing a Character

Today I’d like to highlight a new feature for Tower Song: rather than select their class right at New Game, players will first play each class during a short prologue sequence. After defeating the first boss, they will then be asked to select their avatar for the rest of the adventure.

Choosing your class is not an uncommon feature in Western role-playing games, but the choosing is difficult when made right after hitting New Game. Without knowing anything else about the game or its combat mechanics, this is often a wild guess. Skill descriptions and previews can help, but nothing beats actual playtime with the class.

Tower Song is a short game, as this style of RPG goes, so it was tempting to just let players make this choice right at New Game and let them restart the game if they really hated their choice. But that’s a pretty ugly expectation, even if the stakes are lower than in a 40-hour game.

So now the game opens with a Prologue, serving two functions: allow players to get their hands on the playable classes before making any permanent decisions, and allow the story to unfold a little more gracefully into the events that will come to shape these characters’ lives.

Development Update: Playable Beta!

The last few months have been quite hectic, if the lack of newsletters didn’t give it away. But our hard work has paid off to give us a fully playable campaign, putting the game in solid beta territory. There is still lots to do to get our demo ready for you, but this is a major milestone for the team and puts us well on track for a 2023 release. More on that date soon!
